Thermocouple Measuring Amplifier



One of the most commonly used methods of temperature measurement in industry depends on the thermocouple effect. When a pair of wires made of different metals are joined together at one end, a temperature difference between that end and the other end of the wires produce a voltage difference between the two wires. The magnitude of this voltage difference depends on the materials used for the wires and the amount of temperature difference between the two ends. Since the magnitude of the voltage generated is very small, it must be amplified and converted to a useable output signal for use in other instruments; thermocouple measuring amplifiers perform this function. The Wieland ATC-TC series of thermocouple measuring amplifiers is an inexpensive method of providing useable output over relatively narrow temperature ranges. Designed for thermocouple types J, K, T, R amd S, they provide either 0 - 10V or 4 - 20 mA outputs. Standard temperature range is 0 - 70 degrees C, but can be modified to suit user's requirements.
